Post #38 – Rosie’s Daughters: The “First Woman To” Generation Tells Its Story by Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett

A Rosie (the Riveter) Halloween

Kendra and I are having so much fun this Halloween season. Yes, for us it is a season not just a single day. We get our first orders for Rosie the Riveter Gear in August. They begin to rise the closer we get to the actual day. This means long hours of filling orders, making sure each person gets the requested items — Rosie the Riveter Legacy Bandana, Rosie’s Employment Badge/Collar Pin, Rosie the Riveter Do It Yourself Poster, etc.

All of that is the work part and takes many hours as we fold and bag them ourselves. So why are we having fun? It’s because we get to communicate with so many fans of Rosie the Riveter and often to to see photos. Yesterday, Kendra received this photo:

Abigail’s mother shared the story of this strong, empowered Rosie:

“I decided to dress Abigail up as Rosie the Riveter this year for Halloween. She has such a strong personality and I-can-do-anything attitude. I thought Rosie would be just right for her. And I must say I think she fit the role perfectly. She loved it!

“Abigail was so interested in who Rosie the Riveter was and what she stood for. I loved answering every curious question.

“We need more women like Rosie! Thanks again for getting the bandana and pin to me so fast. It made her outfit just perfect!”

And here’s Rosie-Abigail ready for work, lunchpail in hand, employment badge on her collar, and red and white bandana on her head.

Abigail — keep asking those questions. And when someone asks you “Why?” you want to be a strong woman, answer “Why not!”

Abigail, we thank both you and your mother for sharing these great photos and your story.
