Halloween is Coming: Let Rosie the Riveter Inspire Your Costume

Post #35 – Rosie’s Daughters: The “First Woman To” Generation Tells Its Story by Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett

Each year as Halloween approaches, we get requests for our Rosie the Riveter red and white polka dot bandana. Sometimes we have the treat of seeing our Rosie bandanas in use. Now with Halloween rolling around again, I want to post a few more of the terrific photos we are sent. These are from Brenda Kowalski.

We asked Brenda why she chose to be Rosie the Riveter, she replied:

“I thought Rosie the Riveter would be a cool costume and very different from the “norm!”

“My husband was the one who should be credited for most of my outfit and getting it just right. He insisted on buying me your bandana for one thing. He said it wouldn’t be right without it. He also bought a used lunchbox & painted it so nicely for me. Those are his boots I’m wearing, as well as his shirt and jeans. He’s a real WWII buff and was very enthusiastic about the fact that I chose Rosie to dress up as.

“In addition, I was able to create an ID button similar to the one she wore. “Picture It” helped me superimpose my face onto a picture of a lady with a 40’s hairstyle. I received many compliments on my choice of costume which made it all worthwhile. It was so great to see many people recognized me as Rosie the Riveter.

“Thank you for adding a very important component to my costume! I was very proud to represent such an important part of our history!”

Thank you Brenda for sharing these great photos. We agree. You look terrific as Rosie.

By the way, Kendra and I are especially pleased to announce that so many of our customers asked for a Rosie the Riveter collar pin (actually this was the employment badge) over the past several years that we went to our incredible graphic designer to see what could be done. We wanted an authentic look.
